WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1998

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:35 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Stan Dromisky, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Sarmite Bulte, Norman Doyle, Stan Dromisky, Raymonde Folco, Louise Hardy, Steve Mahoney, John N. McKay, Grant McNally, Réal Ménard, Maria Minna, Deepak Obhrai, John Reynolds and Jacques Saada.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Richard Flageole, Assistant Auditor General; Serge Gaudet, Principal, Audit Operations Branch.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consider Chapter 25 of the December 1997 Report of the Auditor General of Canada (Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Immigration and Refugee Board -- The Processing of Refugee Claims) particularly dealing with the removal of rejected refugee claims.

Richard Flageole made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 5:00 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned until Wednesday, February 18, 1998.
