Meeting No. 23

Tuesday, October 16, 2001

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Claude Bachand, Colleen Beaumier, Leon Benoit, Stan Dromisky, John O'Reilly, Janko Peric, David Pratt, David Price, Carmen Provenzano, Peter Stoffer, Elsie Wayne, Bryon Wilfert, Bob Wood.

Acting Member present: Cheryl Gallant for Roy Bailey.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Assistants.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Gen. Raymond R. Henault, CMM, CD, Chief of the Defence Staff; Lt-Gen. George E.C. Macdonald, Vice Chief of the Defence Staff; Vadm. G.R. Maddison, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed its study on the state of readiness of the Canadian Forces.

General Henault made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee proceeded in camera to consider its future business.

At 5:38 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
