Wednesday, May 31, 2000

The Sub-Committee on Children and Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, John Godfrey, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: Libby Davies, Christiane Gagnon, John Godfrey, Ovid Jackson, Eric Lowther and Diane St-Jacques.

Other Member(s) present: Peter Adams.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie MacKenzie, Research Officer.

Witness(es): From the National Foundation for Family Research and Education: Dr. Mark Genuis, Executive Director. From the Child Care Education Foundation: Kerry McCuaig, Researcher and Consultant. From the Invest in Kids Foundation: Dr. Carol Crill Russell, Vice President, Research and Programs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (See Minutes of Proceedings of February 29, 2000 - Meeting No.15), the Sub-Committee resumed its study on the future of children and youth in Canada with particular reference to early childhood development services.

Mark Genuis, Carol Crill Russell and Kerry McCuaig made statements and answered questions.

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
