Wednesday, June 14, 2000
The Sub-Committee on Children and Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 3:41 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, John Godfrey, presiding.
Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: Libby Davies, Christiane Gagnon, John Godfrey, Ovid Jackson and Eric Lowther.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie MacKenzie, Research Officer.
Witness(es): From the "Concertaction inter-régionale des centres de la Petite enfance du Québec": Claudette Pitre Robin, Vice President. From the Ottawa-Carleton's Success by 6: Dr. Robert Cushman, Medical Officer of Health, Ottawa-Carleton Regional Health Department; Dianne Wilson, Executive Director, Ottawa Senators Foundation; Michael Allen, President/Executive Director, United Way/Centraide Ottawa-Carleton. From the PEI Child Alliance: Robert Paterson, Member of the Advisory Committee. From the Windows of Opportunity for Vancouver's Children and Youth: Dr. Lois Yelland, Member of the Project Co-ordinating Committee.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (See Minutes of Proceedings of February 29, 2000 - Meeting No.15), the Sub-Committee resumed its study on the future of children and youth in Canada with particular reference to early childhood development services.
Claudette Pitre-Robin, Dr. Robert Cushman, Michael Allen, Dianne Wilson, Robert Paterson and Dr. Lois Yelland made statements and answered questions.
At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
