The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:07 o’clock a.m, this day, in room 209, West Block, the Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Elinor Caplan, Aileen Carroll, Claude Drouin, Maurice Dumas, Reed Elley, Grant Hill, Lynn Myers, Beth Phinney, Pauline Picard, Joseph Volpe, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Nancy Miller-Chenier and Gérald Lafrenière, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of natural health products. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, November 20, 1997.)

Witnesses: From Citizens for Choice in Health Care: Robert McMaster, President. From the Health Action Network Society: Lorna Hancock, Executive Director; Cathrine Gabriel, Executive Administrator. From the Canadian Health Coalition: Michael McBane, National Coordinator; Kathleen Connors, President. From the National Coalition of Health Freedom: Miriam Hawkins. From Citizens’ Voice for Health Rights: Debbie Anderson; Randy Gomm. From Friends of Freedom: Shirley Skinner, Concerned consumer; Trueman Tuck, Health food store owner; Susanna Davis, Complementary Health Practitioner.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:25 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
