Tuesday, March 9, 1999

The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Elinor Caplan, Reed Elley, Ovid Jackson, Maria Minna, Pauline Picard, Karen Redman and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Member present: Keith Martin for Gurmant Grewal.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Sonya Norris, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Association of Organ Donation: Richard Tremblay, President; From "La Fondation Diane Hébert": Isabelle Gendron, Executive Director; From Quebec Transplant: Donald Langlais, Director; From the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre: Mary Ellen Gurnham, Nursing Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), a study on the State of Organ and Tissue Donation in Canada.

Donald Langlais, Richard Tremblay, Isabelle Gendron and Mary Ellen Gurnham each made opening statements and answered questions.

At 11:03 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
