Thursday, March 4, 1999

The Standing Committee on Health met in camera at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Elinor Caplan, Reed Elley, Ovid Jackson, Pauline Picard, Karen Redman, Rose-Marie Ur, Maurice Vellacott, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Member present: Keith Martin for Gurmant Grewal.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Sonya Norris, Research Officer.

Witness(es):From Health Canada: Dennis Brodie, A/Manager, Policy Division, Bureau of Policy and Coordination; André LaPrairie, Blood, Tissue, Organ and Xenotransplantation (BTOX) Project Manager. From the Calgary Regional Health Authority: Dr. John Jarrell, Chief Medical Officer. From the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation: Dr. Jules Martin, Associate General Director. Dennis Brodie, André LaPrairie, Dr. John Jarrell and Dr. Jules Martin each made statements and answered questions.

At 10:38 a.m. the Committee suspended its sitting.

At 10:42 a.m. the Committee resumed sitting.

André Wisaksana, Dr. Margaret Somerville, Dr. Antonio Giulivi and Brian Crowell each made statements and answered questions.

At 11:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
