Thursday, May 27, 1999
The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Gurmant Grewal, Ovid Jackson, Maria Minna, Bernard Patry, Pauline Picard, Karen Redman, Maurice Vellacott, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.
Acting Members present: Bernard Bigras for Caroline St-Hilaire, Keith Martin for Reed Elley, George Baker for Dan McTeague, Carmen Provenzano for Robert Nault, Claude Drouin for Elinor Caplan.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Sonya Norris, Research Officers.
Appearing: From the Department of Health: The Hon. Allan Rock, Minister of Health.
Witnesses: From Health Canada: David Dodge, Deputy Minister; Marie Fortier, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Consultation Branch and Assistant Deputy Minister, Home Care Development; Dr. Joe Losos, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Protection Branch; Ian Potter, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Promotion and Programs.
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4) , and the Orders of the House of March 1, 1999 and March 25, 1999, Main Estimates 1999 - 2000 under Health Canada and Report on Plans and Priorities for Health Canada (Sessional Paper No. 8520-361-201)
The Minister made a statement and with the witnesses, answered questions.
By unanimous consent, Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 carried.
ORDERED, -- That the Chairman report Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 under Health to the House.
