The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Joseph Volpe, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Ovid Jackson, Pauline Picard, Maurice Vellacott.

Acting Member present: Bev Desjarlais for Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Sonya Norris, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Archdiocese of Toronto: Suzanne Rozell Scorsone, Former Commissioner for the Royal Commission on New Reproductive Technologies, Director of Communications and of Catholic Family Life. From the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists: Dr. Ronald F. Carter, Vice President. From the Feminist Alliance on Genetic and Reproductive Technologies: Fiona Miller. From McGill University, Centre for Medicine, Ethics and Law: Dr. Margaret Somerville, Gale Professor of Law.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of March 8, 1999, reconsideration of Clause 1 of Bill C-247, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (genetic manipulation)

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
