Meeting No. 19

Wednesday, October 7, 1998

The Sub-Committee on the Study of Sport in Canada met, in a televised session, at 4:12 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Dennis Mills, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Denis Coderre, Albina Guarnieri, Inky Mark, Dennis Mills, Pat O'Brien, George Proud, Suzanne Tremblay.

Acting Member present: Carmen Provenzano for Albina Guarnieri.

Other Member present: John Cannis.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Claude Blanchette, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport: Victor Lachance, Chief Executive Officer. From the Canadian Special Olympics Inc.: Jim Jordan, President; Deborah Bright, National Program Director. From the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity: Marg McGregor, Executive Director; Karin Lofstrom, Operations Manager.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed consideration of the Study of Sport in Canada.

The Chair made opening remarks regarding the business of the Committee.

Victor Lachance made an opening statement and answered questions.

Jim Jordan and Deborah Bright made opening statements and answered questions.

Marg McGregor made an opening statement and with Karin Lofstrom answered questions.

At 6:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
