THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1998

The Sub-Committee on the Study of Sport in Canada of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:07 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Dennis Mills, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dennis Mills, Denis Coderre, Albina Guarnieri, George Proud, Suzanne Tremblay, Nelson Riis and Peter G. MacKay.

Acting Members present: Carmen Provenzano for Pat O'Brien.

Other Member present: Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Blanchette, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the University of Ottawa: Jean Harvey, Professor, School of Physical Activity Sciences and Vice-Dean (Research) Faculty of Health Sciences; Marc Lavoie, Professor, Department of Economics.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed the consideration of the Study of Sport in Canada.

Jean Harvey and Marc Lavoie made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:55 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
