The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 8:35 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gerry Byrne, Roy Cullen, John Duncan, Tony Ianno, Marlene Jennings, Carmen Provenzano, Werner Schmidt, Ben Serré, Brent St. Denis.

Acting Members present: Gerald Keddy for Gilles Bernier; René Canuel for Pierre de Savoye.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages; Research Officer.

Appearing:: The Hon. Ralph Goodale, Minister of Natural Resources.

Witnesses: From the Department of Natural Resources: Jean C. McCloskey, Deputy Minister; Dr. Yvan Hardy, Assistant Deputy Minister, Canadian Forest Service; Joanne Toews, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Sector.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the Committee considered the Main Estimates 1999 - 2000: Votes under NATURAL RESOURCES and resumed consideration of its study of Canadian Forest Management Practices as an International Trade Issue.

The Minister made a statement and with the witnesses answered questions.

At 10:07 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
