Meeting No. 71

Monday, May 10, 1999

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, , Gerry Byrne, Roy Cullen, John Duncan, Werner Schmidt, Ben Serré and Brent St. Denis.

Acting Members present: Paul Crête for Pierre de Savoye; Gerald Keddy for Gilles Bernier; and Rob Anders for David Chatters.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages; Researcher.

Witnesses: From Natural Resources Canada: Dr. Yvan Hardy, Assistant Deputy Minister, Canadian Forest Service; Pauline Myre, Acting Director General, Policy, Planning and International Affairs Branch, Canadian Forest Service; Doug Ketcheson, Director General, Industry, Economics and Programs Branch, Canadian Forest Service; Dr. Carl Winget, Acting Director General, Science Branch, Canadian Forest Srvice. From the Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Richard D. Ballhorn, Director General, International Environmental Affairs Branch; Wallace H Dowswell, Director General, Export and Import Control Bureau.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the Committee resumed consideration of a study of Canadian Forest Management Practices as an International Trade Issue.

Dr. Yvan Hardy made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 5:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
